About Me – Alf Collett
With over 25 years in education, my journey has spanned continents, cultures, and countless classrooms. After qualifying as a primary school teacher in the UK, I embarked on an international path that led me to leadership roles in Southeast Asia and eventually to Dubai. Along the way, I earned a master’s in Educational Leadership and Management, and founded an impactful English language program with a charity in the slums of Bangkok. This initiative remains a career highlight, not just for the program’s success, but for the enduring gratitude of the children and families it helped.
My career has taught me that while knowledge, skills, and understanding are vital, the spirit in which they are received and the gratitude they engender can be equally transformative. In Dubai, I’ve encountered a different educational culture, one often shadowed by entitlement. This contrast has only deepened my belief in gratitude’s power to foster genuine engagement and happiness, both in education and beyond.
TeachGratia is a platform dedicated to celebrating the silent, yet profound impact teachers have. It’s a place for those inspired by educators to express their gratitude, recognising that a simple ‘thank you’ can brighten both the giver’s and receiver’s day.
Outside the classroom, I have kept my life vibrant by running, singing in a rock band, and participating in community theatre. These passions, alongside my professional pursuits, shape who I am: an educator, a leader, and a believer in the transformative power of gratitude.
